Shepard Sorey is a Hyland/Rolance War veteran, and is known as the world's first superhero. Born in a small village outside Hyland, the young Sorey suffered from numerous health problems, and upon Hyland's entry into the war, was rejected from military service despite several attempts to enlist. Determined to serve, he ultimately volunteered for the top-secret Shepard program, and the frail Sorey was enhanced to the peak of human perfection. He soon joined the war effort as a mascot, given the moniker of The Shepard, and later joined the war in a combat role after he single-handedly liberated captured Allied POWs.

During the war, Sorey had attacked multiple CCG bases alongside his own team, the Shepard's Posse, in an attempt to capture the Lord of Calamity, Heldalf, and recover the Dragon Ball. His famous war exploits had made him a living legend, and during this time he formed a relationship with Princess Alishia Diphda. Despite seemingly losing his closest best friend and loyal teammate, Mikleo, during a mission, Sorey carried on to help Hyland win the war, but crashed into the Arctic during his final mission. His close friend Hoenheim Elric spent time looking for his body. Sorey then spent 66 years encased in ice in suspended animation before he was found by M.O.N. in the early 21st century.

When he was awakened, Sorey found himself alone in a modern world that he hardly recognized with no idea what he was going to do with his life. Following a Saiyan named Vegeta having stolen a Dragon Ball from M.O.N. and declaring war on humanity, Director Ciel Phantomhive enlisted Sorey's help in retrieving what he had once known as the CCG's weapon, and foiling Vegeta's plans. Joining the team dubbed as the Jump Force made up of Earth's mightiest heroes, which included Hoenheim Elric's son Edward Elric, Sorey played one of many pivotal roles in the Battle of Amestria, successfully preventing the Hollow Invasion of Earth, apprehending Vegeta, and reacquiring the Dragon Ball while finding his place in this world.

Joining M.O.N. as a way to maintain peace and justice with the help of Akame, Sorey came into conflict with the Winter Seraph who seemingly assassinated Ciel Phantomhive. Being blamed for the incident by Joker, Sorey eventually discovered that the CCG, whom he thought had dissolved, had existed in secret as a parasite within M.O.N., and that they were planning to use Project Insight as a way to bring about a new world order, while also learning that the Winter Seraph was in fact his best friend Mikleo, now operating as a brainwashed assassin. Along Akame, Zombina and Zavied, Sorey had ended the CCG Uprising. With the immediate threat of the CCG quelled, Sorey embarked on a quest to locate Mikleo.

In the midst of his search for Mikleo, the Jump Force were mobilized in order to eliminate the remnants of the CCG, prompting Sorey to abandon his quest and rejoin all of his former teammates to help capture the Dragon Ball and Investigator Arima. After securing their victory, Sorey was almost immediately thrown into another crisis when Father, the peacekeeping Homonculous program designed by Edward Elric and Naruto Uzumaki, began a plot to eliminate humanity. Following a prolonged and brutal conflict in which the Greed's creation gave them an advantage, Father was defeated during the Battle of Hellawes, however the cost of their battle meant many of the Jump Force disbanded, while Sorey and Akame stayed to lead the second incarnation of the team.

While the new Jump Force conducted worldwide missions, they soon began tracking down Investigator Mado, only for Rias Gremory to be blamed for innocent deaths when she failed to fully contain an explosion that Mado set off. Kakashi Hatake then used the disaster to write the Hellawes Accords which Sorey refused to sign due to moral disagreements. Sorey's problems increased even more as Mikleo resurfaced having seemingly caused a recent terrorist bombing, and Sorey chose to protect him, which then lead to Kakashi sending Edward out to apprehend them both. Upon learning General Esdeath was to blame, Sorey fought against his former allies to find Esdeath, only for all Esdeath's schemes to be completed as she revealed Mikleo killed Edward's parents, resulting in Sorey going on the run and the Jump Force falling apart.

Having saved his friends from the Raft, Sorey sent Mikleo to gain help from Kenshiro in Shura while he and all his allies became vigilantes. However when Omega Shenron and his Shadow Dragons attacked Earth seeking the final Dragon Balls, Sorey came out of hiding in order to protect Greed. In order to keep the Greed safe, Sorey had brought him to Shura where he and Kenshiro's armies held off the onslaught of Hollows sent down by Omega Shenron. Despite their success in killing Omega Shenron's forces, when Omega Shenron himself arrived on the planet, he effortlessly overpowered Sorey and the other heroes and took the final Dragon Ball, killing Greed in the process. Despite their attempts, Omega Shenron completed his goal and wiped out half of the population of the universe, leaving as Sorey witnessed his best friend die again alongside his countless others.
